Dissertation Fieldwork Grants Open to non-US citizens Open to students

Application Deadlines: May 1 and November 1 annually
Dissertation Fieldwork Grants are awarded to aid doctoral or thesis research. The program contributes to the Foundation's overall mission to support basic research in anthropology and to ensure that the discipline continues to be a source of vibrant and significant work that furthers our understanding of humanity's cultural and biological origins, development, and variation. The Foundation supports research that demonstrates a clear link to anthropological theory and debates, and promises to make a solid contribution to advancing these ideas. There is no preference for any methodology, research location, or subfield. The Foundation particularly welcomes proposals that employ a comparative perspective, can generate innovative approaches or ideas, and/or integrate two or more subfields.

Hunt Postdoctoral Fellowships Open to non-US citizens

Application Deadlines: May 1 and November 1 annually
Hunt Postdoctoral Fellowships support the writing-up of already completed research. The fellowship is awarded to scholars in the earlier stages of their careers, when they frequently lack the time and resources to develop their research for publication. Scholars with a Ph.D. in hand for no more than ten years (from the application deadline) are eligible to apply. A maximum of eight Hunt Postdoctoral Fellowships are awarded annually.

International Collaborative Research Grants Open to non-US citizens

Application Deadlines: December 1 and June 1 annually
The International Collaborative Research Grant (ICRG) supports international research collaborations between two or more qualified scholars, where the principal investigators bring different and complementary perspectives, knowledge, and/or skills to the project. Supplemental funds are also available to provide essential training for academic research participants in ICRG-funded projects (co-applicants, students, as well as other professional colleagues). By encouraging international collaborations, the grant contributes to the development of an international anthropology that values and incorporates different national perspectives and resources. By providing training funds, the grant helps to build capacity in countries were anthropology may be under-resourced.

Wadsworth International Fellowships Open to non-US citizens Open to students

The Wadsworth International Fellowships are intended to provide support for students undertaking study leading to a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree at universities where they can receive international-level training in anthropology. These fellowships are available only to students from countries where anthropology is underrepresented and where there are limited resources to send students overseas for training. Priority is given to applicants who have not already begun graduate training outside of their home countries. Applications from individuals who are more advanced in their doctoral studies will, however, be considered.
