National Human Genome Research Institute
Centers of Excellence in Genomic Science (CEGS) (P50)
The Centers of Excellence in Genomic Sciences (CEGS) program establishes academic Centers for advanced genome research. Each CEGS grant supports a multi-investigator, interdisciplinary team to develop innovative genomic approaches to address a particular biological problem. A CEGS project will address a critical issue in genomic science, proposing a solution that would be a very substantial advance. Thus, the research conducted at these Centers will entail substantial risk, balanced by outstanding scientific and management plans and very high potential payoff. A CEGS will focus on the development of novel technological or computational methods for the production or analysis of comprehensive data sets, or on a particular genome-scale biological problem, or on other ways to develop and use genomic approaches for understanding biological systems. Exploiting its outstanding scientific plan and team, each CEGS will nurture genomic science at its institution by facilitating the interaction of investigators from different disciplines, and by providing training of new investigators will expand the pool of professional genomics scientists and engineers.

Advanced Centers for Intervention and/or Services Research (ACISR) (P30)
The National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH) invites research grant applications to support core infrastructure for conducting intervention and/or services research directly addressing the mission of NIMH, which is to reduce the burden of mental and behavioral disorders through research on mind, brain, and behavior. In particular, this initiative addresses the mission of the NIMH Division of Services and Intervention Research (DSIR), as well as that the NIMH Geriatrics Research Branch. The DSIR supports two main areas of research: a) intervention research to evaluate the effectiveness of pharmacologic, psychosocial, somatic, rehabilitative and combination treatment or preventive interventions on mental and behavior disorders, and b) mental health services research that consists of interdisciplinary investigations of the predictors, processes and outcomes of mental health services, including availability, access and acceptability; organization; decision-making; service delivery, utilization and quality of care; costs, cost-effectiveness and financing of mental health care, and the dissemination and implementation of effective interventions into service systems. The Geriatrics Research Branch supports intervention research relevant to older adults. The scope of this initiative is broad and meant to support investigators involved in treatment, prevention, and/or services research. Thus, this center grant mechanism can be utilized for a variety of research activities, such as controlled clinical trials of treatment or preventive interventions, research aimed at optimization and personalization of care, evaluation and improvement of the safety of interventions, research on the dissemination and implementation of evidence-based interventions, evaluation and improvement of mental health services, or economics of mental health services. Along the spectrum from effectiveness to services research, the applicant should indicate and justify the specific focus of the center that is being proposed. Novel methodological and organizational approaches, and the creation of multidisciplinary research teams are especially encouraged. Based on the type and stage of development of the research activities being pursued, applicants can propose collaborations between academic investigators and relevant partners and justify support of the collaboration as part of the center.

The National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH) invites applications for Silvio O. Conte Centers for Basic and Translational Mental Health Research. The institute seeks teams of researchers working at different levels of analysis and engaging in integrative, novel, and creative experimental approaches to address high-risk, high-impact questions with the primary objective of: (a) advancing the state of the science in brain and behavior research relevant to mental health; (b) supporting the integration and translation of basic and clinical neuroscience research on severe mental illnesses; and/or (c) advancing our understanding of the neurobehavioral developmental mechanisms responsible for psychopathology [or mental disorders] in childhood and adolescence. The Conte Centers program is intended to support research demonstrating an extraordinary level of synergy, integration, and potential for advancing the state of the field; this program is intended only for projects that could not be achieved by using other, more standard grant mechanisms. Alcohol Research Resource Awards (R24)
# In the pursuit of alcohol-related research, resources are occasionally developed that are used by and benefit the broader alcohol research community and are shared with scientists at both the resource developer's home institution and at external institutions. While support for maintenance of these resources is often provided through a Regular Research Project Grant (R01) award or the core of an Alcohol Research Center (P50), situations may arise in which continued support of the resource through any or all of these instruments is not feasible. For example, demand for the resource by individuals from outside the home institution may exceed the capacity of support available through an investigator's R01 or an institution's P50. As well, the developers of the resource may have a reduced need for the resource, while other investigators continue to benefit from the resource.The objective of this Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) is to provide general support of already established research resources that serve the alcohol research community. Under special circumstances, the mechanism may be used to support development of a new resource. It is anticipated that the request for resource support through the research resource grant (R24) mechanism will occur on an infrequent basis and only in circumstances where other mechanisms of support from the National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism (NIAAA) are not appropriate. Applicants must demonstrate an interest in the resource by investigators from at least three different institutions, one of which may be their home institution.
